The Elite Pro tier of GameStop's PowerUp Rewards program is coming to an end on August 1. This is the most advanced level of the GameStop membership program and gives gamers huge benefits like 20% extra trade-in credit for old games and 20% off pre-owned games in addition to all the other rewards. Apparently, the benefits are too good because GameStop is shutting the program down.

The membership costs $29.99 for a year. Whether you're a dedicated Elite Pro member or you just want to take advantage of these savings one last time, you can sign up for it now before it shuts down. Once it's gone, it's gone, so it can't hurt to try. You have to do it in-store though because GameStop doesn't accept applications online.

In addition to the 20% off benefits mentioned above, you'll also get: 30 points for every dollar spent, a birthday offer, a welcome offer that lets you get one pre-owned game free when you buy two, 12 issues of Game Informer magazine, access to GameStop's exclusive Pro Day sale (an event we have covered before), and free two-day shipping on orders of $35 or more online.

We cannot confirm if the other tiers of the PowerUp Rewards program are going away, only the Elite Pro tier. Benefits for gamers are disappearing all over the place since Best Buy shut down Gamers Club Unlocked earlier this year. Some retailers haven't abandoned you as Amazon still gives 20% off all video game pre-orders for Prime members. Hopefully this trend of ending programs does not continue.
